Public Transport

From Buenos Aires, take the Mitre train line towards Tigre from Retiro station. Get off at Beccar station. From there, Villa Ocampo is approximately an 800-meter walk. Follow Elortondo street from the station; the Villa will be on your right. A SUBE card is needed for train travel; the train fare from Retiro to Beccar is approximately ARS 700-3200.

Villa Ocampo, a beautifully restored mansion in Béccar, stands as a testament to the life and legacy of Victoria Ocampo (1890–1979), one of Argentina's most influential cultural figures. Built in 1891, the house reflects a blend of British and French architectural styles and is surrounded by an extensive historical garden.Victoria Ocampo was a writer, essayist, translator, and founder of the influential Sur magazine. Villa Ocampo became her permanent residence in 1940 and a hub for intellectuals and artists from around the world. Notable visitors included Rabindranath Tagore, Igor Stravinsky, Le Corbusier, Albert Camus, and Jorge Luis Borges. The house contains a significant collection of art, furnishings, and Ocampo's personal library of 12,000 books. Visitors can explore the rooms as they were during her lifetime, including the music room with its Steinway piano.Donated to UNESCO in 1973, Villa Ocampo is now a cultural center open to the public. It hosts temporary exhibitions, guided tours, and events that celebrate literature, history, and the arts. The site offers a unique glimpse into the intellectual and artistic history of Argentina.
