Later, it served as an observation post and munitions depot for the Army of the North under General Manuel Belgrano in 1812 during the Argentine War of Independence. It was also a site of combat in 1837 during the war against the Peru-Bolivian Confederation. The church was eventually demolished in the early 19th century during a royalist invasion.Today, the Torre de Santa Bárbara offers visitors stunning panoramic views of Humahuaca and the Quebrada de Humahuaca.
