Discover more about Goverment house

Located in front of Independence Square, the Government House stands as the highest public building in the province. Constructed between 1908 and 1910 and inaugurated on July 9, 1912, it replaced the old Cabildo (Council) as part of a modernization effort spurred by the booming sugar industry. The building's architecture combines French Baroque with Italian classicism, symbolizing its role as a public institution. The interior boasts a majestic White Hall in the Art Nouveau style, which has hosted numerous national and international figures. The entrance hall features a large bronze chandelier and holds the remains of Juan Bautista Alberdi, a notable figure from Tucumán. Visitors can take guided tours of the palace to admire its ornate interior, including the famous salón blanco with its spiderweb chandeliers and ceiling panels by Spanish artist Julio Vila y Prades. The palace is particularly striking at night when its illuminated facade creates a memorable scene in the city center.
