Discover more about Museo Casa Padilla

Museo Casa Padilla, situated in the heart of San Miguel de Tucumán, is a window into the region's rich cultural heritage. Housed in a magnificent Italianate-style mansion, the museum provides an immersive experience, showcasing a diverse collection of art, furniture, and historical artifacts. The building itself is a significant example of Italianate architecture in Tucumán, featuring an ornate facade with pilasters, balustrades, moldings, marble, and wrought iron. The house, built around 1860, originally belonged to Don Ángel Padilla and his wife, Lastenia Frías, a prominent family in Tucumán. The museum occupies a house that was once part of a larger property owned by Governor José Frías, who divided it between his children in the mid-19th century. The museum's collection includes European paintings, Hispanic-American objects, and a valuable collection of oriental pieces, primarily Chinese. Visitors can also admire original furniture and decorative art that belonged to the Padilla family. The museum also features a collection of Chinese ceramics, jade pieces, and coromandel screens. The house is structured in the style of a “casa chorizo,” with 18 rooms arranged around four patios. The original section of the house dates back to 1750. The family of Ángel Cruz Padilla lived there until 1962, and it became a museum in 1979.
