Christ of the Sierras: A Beacon of Faith in Tandil

Perched atop a hill in Villa Don Bosco, the Christ of the Sierras stands as a symbol of faith and a testament to the spirit of Tandil. This impressive monument, inaugurated in 2014, offers visitors panoramic views of the picturesque Tandil landscape, characterized by rolling hills and lush greenery. The statue, crafted by artist Fernando Pavolini (known as Tirso) in collaboration with the Salesian order and many local hands, stands 10 meters tall and weighs 13 tons, making it one of the tallest cast sculptures in Latin America. Illuminated at night by solar panels and wind energy, the monument exudes a unique mystical force. The statue's design reflects the local culture, religious expression, landscape, and metallurgical activity. Visitors can reach the Christ of the Sierras via a path that winds through the hills, offering varying levels of difficulty for both casual walkers and avid hikers. The journey to the monument is rewarding, with stunning vistas, diverse flora, and the occasional wildlife encounter. Along the way, you can see views of the lake and the Del Fuerte dam, Parque Independencia, La Movediza, and Sierra del Tigre. The site is open year-round, from 8 AM to 7 PM.
