Ringo, born John Peters Ringo in 1850, was a complex figure known for his involvement with the Cochise County Cowboys and his confrontations with Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. His death on July 14, 1882, remains a subject of debate, officially ruled a suicide but fueling numerous theories of murder. Found slumped against a tree in West Turkey Creek Canyon with a bullet wound to the head, Ringo was buried where he lay. The simple grave, marked by a pile of rocks and a historical marker, is located on private land, with the landowners graciously allowing public access. Visitors can reflect on the life and times of this enigmatic outlaw in a tranquil setting, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Arizona landscape.The gravesite is accessible via a dirt road (E. Turkey Creek Rd). The owners of the property allow folks to visit between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. There is currently no fee, although there is a donation box located feet away from the gravesite.
