Getting There

Driving

From Grand Canyon Village, take Desert View Drive (Highway 64 East) for approximately 22 miles. Lipan Point will be on your left, about a half-mile north of the main road. Follow the signs for Lipan Point. Parking is free but can be limited, especially during peak season. There are 41 parking spots including 2 handicap and 7 oversized vehicle parking spots.
Public Transport

While the regular park shuttle does not directly service Lipan Point, you can take the Desert View Tour offered by Grand Canyon Lodges, which includes a stop at Lipan Point (seasonally). The cost is $97 per adult and $48.50 per child.

The Unkar Delta, cradled by the river, was once home to ancient Puebloan people who cultivated the land. The roar of Hance Rapid can be heard in the distance, and the skies above are frequented by hawks and other raptors.Geologically, Lipan Point is significant for its clear view of the Grand Canyon Supergroup, with the lower Unkar Group dating back 1255-1100 million years. The Dox Formation's soft, purple sandstone and the black Cardenas Basalt, formed from ancient lava flows, contribute to the canyon's colorful tapestry.Lipan Point is also historically significant due to its proximity to the Tanner Trail, a pathway used by Native Americans and early settlers to access the river. The Lipan Apache tribe is believed to be the origin of the point's name. Today, the Tanner Trail is the longest Rim to River trail throughout the entire Grand Canyon.Lipan Point is easily accessible by car, making it a popular spot for photographers and sightseers. Its location away from the Grand Canyon Visitor Center contributes to a less crowded, more serene experience.
