Rainbow Bridge National Monument, nestled in the rugged canyons of southern Utah, is home to Rainbow Bridge, one of the largest natural bridges on Earth. This majestic arch, with a span of 275 feet and a height of 290 feet, is composed of salmon-pink Navajo sandstone, sculpted by millions of years of erosion.For centuries, Rainbow Bridge has been revered by Native American tribes, including the Navajo, Hopi, San Juan Southern Paiute, Kaibab Paiute, and White Mesa Ute. Known as Nonnezoshe, or "rainbow turned to stone," the bridge is a sacred symbol of rainfall, fertility, and the divine. The National Park Service asks visitors to respect the site's cultural importance.President William Howard Taft established Rainbow Bridge National Monument in 1910. The construction of Glen Canyon Dam in 1963 and the creation of Lake Powell made the bridge more accessible, drawing thousands of visitors annually. Today, the monument is managed by the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.Visitors can reach Rainbow Bridge by boat via Lake Powell or by a challenging, multi-day hike. The monument itself encompasses just 160 acres, but its towering natural bridge and the surrounding canyon offer a breathtaking experience.
