Getting There

    Oracle State Park is located near the town of Oracle, accessible via Arizona State Highway 77. From Tucson, drive north on AZ-77 for approximately 40 miles. As you approach Oracle, follow signs for the park. Turn onto American Avenue and then onto Mount Lemmon Highway to reach the main entrance. The final approach involves a short drive on Wildlife Drive to the park's entrance. The entrance fee is $7 per vehicle.

  • Walking

    If you are already in the town of Oracle, you can walk to the park. From the intersection of AZ-77 and American Avenue, head east on American Avenue, then turn onto Mount Lemmon Highway and follow it to Wildlife Drive. Be aware that this is a significant walk, and there are no sidewalks for a portion of the route. The entrance fee for pedestrians or bicyclists is $3.

Oracle State Park, a 4,000-acre wildlife refuge in the northern foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, offers visitors a diverse range of experiences. Established in 2001, the park's creation was motivated by the desire to preserve the Kannally Ranch House and the surrounding land.The park's history dates back to 1903 when the Kannally brothers purchased a 160-acre ranch, later expanding it to 50,000 acres. The Kannally Ranch House, constructed between 1929 and 1932 in the Mediterranean Revival style with Moorish influences, stands as a testament to the family's legacy. Today, the ranch house serves as a visitor center and museum, showcasing original furnishings and artwork by cowboy artist Lee Kannally. Note that the Kannally Ranch House will be closed for facility improvements through June 2025.Oracle State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, boasting over 15 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. These trails wind through diverse terrain, from high-desert grasslands to oak woodlands, offering stunning views of the San Pedro River Valley. A section of the Arizona Trail, a National Scenic Trail, also traverses the park.In 2014, Oracle State Park was designated an International Dark Sky Park, recognized for its exceptional stargazing conditions. Its location, shielded from Tucson's light pollution by the Catalina Mountains, provides a convenient and authentic dark sky experience. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the Milky Way and attend star parties throughout the year.The park also serves as a Center for Environmental Education, offering programs for school and adult groups. Oracle State Park is home to a variety of wildlife, including javelinas, coyotes, deer, rabbits, and various bird species. The park's flora includes prickly pear and cholla cactus, scrub oak, mesquite, wildflowers, and the occasional piñon and juniper.
