Getting There

  • Walking

    The Delta Cultural Center Depot is located at 95 Missouri St in Helena-West Helena. If you are already in the historic downtown area, such as near the Visitors Center at 141 Cherry Street, it is a short walk south. Head south on Cherry Street, then turn left onto Missouri Street. The Depot will be on your left. The walk is less than a block and should take only a few minutes. There is no cost for walking.

  • Driving

    If driving from outside of Helena-West Helena, follow the main routes into the city. From the Delta area, take US-49 South and exit onto AR-1 South towards Helena/West Helena. Continue on AR-1 and turn left onto Cherry Street, then turn left onto Missouri Street. The Delta Cultural Center Depot will be on your left at 95 Missouri Street. Free public parking is available.

The Delta Cultural Center Depot, located in a renovated 1912 Missouri Pacific railroad station, is a key component of the Delta Cultural Center in Helena-West Helena. Opened in 1990, the center is committed to preserving and showcasing the cultural heritage of a 27-county region in the Arkansas Delta. The Depot itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and stands as a tangible link to the area's past. Inside the Depot, visitors can explore exhibits that delve into various aspects of Delta history. "Heritage of Determination" chronicles the Arkansas Delta from prehistoric times to the present, using photographs, artifacts, and interactive displays. A searchable, computerized "scrapbook" of Delta memories and "The Great Boat Race" activity offer engaging experiences for all ages. The exhibits also cover the Civil War in the Arkansas Delta, highlighting the Battle of Helena fought on July 4, 1863. Exhibits also explore the history of the Mississippi River, Delta agriculture, and Native American history. The Depot also features the Delta Eagle Room, named after the Missouri Pacific train that once stopped at the depot. Today, this room is used for educational classes, parties, and other events. The Delta Cultural Center encompasses several facilities, including the Visitors Center, which features the Delta Sounds music exhibit and the Moore-Hornor House, an example of Greek Revival and Italianate architecture.
