Discover more about Inspiration Point

Inspiration Point, located just a few miles west of Eureka Springs on Highway 62, is a scenic overlook offering some of the most breathtaking views in the Ozark Mountains. Perched atop a 550-foot cliff, the vista stretches across the winding White River and the rolling hills of the surrounding landscape. Originally named by Reverend Charles Scoville in 1932, Inspiration Point has a rich history. Charles Mowers, a German-born engineer, purchased the land in 1928 and began building a castle inspired by those along the Rhine River. After the stock market crash, Mowers abandoned the project, and Scoville completed the castle, envisioning it as a retreat. For a time, the site was home to Phillips University before becoming the Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony, now known as Opera in the Ozarks. Today, Inspiration Point is a favorite spot for taking in glorious sunsets, observing unique cloud formations, and stargazing on clear nights. The overlook is conveniently located next to Castle Antiques, offering visitors a chance to browse unique finds while enjoying the scenic view. The changing seasons bring new perspectives, from the lush greens of summer to the vibrant colors of autumn. Bald eagles can sometimes be spotted soaring above the White River. With accessible parking and minimal amenities, Inspiration Point provides a simple yet profound opportunity to connect with the natural beauty of the Ozarks.
