Arkansas Arboretum: A Natural Showcase

The Arkansas Arboretum, a 71-acre sanctuary within Pinnacle Mountain State Park, serves as a living museum of Arkansas's native plant life. Located along the Little Maumelle River, the arboretum showcases the state's six distinct geographical regions, from the Ozark Plateau's rugged hills to the Mississippi Alluvial Plain's flat bottomlands. The arboretum features a 0.6-mile paved, barrier-free interpretive trail, making it accessible to all visitors. Along the trail, you'll encounter a variety of trees and plants, each labeled to correspond with Arkansas's six natural divisions. Benches and audio sign panels enhance the experience, providing rest stops and educational insights into the region's diverse flora. Pinnacle Mountain State Park, established in 1977, is a day-use park emphasizing environmental education, outdoor recreation, and preservation. The park's diverse habitats, including upland forests, wetlands, and bottomlands along the Big and Little Maumelle Rivers, offer a range of recreational and educational opportunities. In addition to the arboretum, the park features over 33 miles of hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and interpretive programs.
