Discover more about Historic Arkansas Museum

The Historic Arkansas Museum (HAM), originally known as the Arkansas Territorial Capitol Restoration, opened in 1941 and is the first state-supported history museum in Arkansas. The museum showcases Arkansas's rich history and cultural legacy through a variety of exhibits and preserved buildings. Located on its original block in downtown Little Rock, the museum features several meticulously restored pre-Civil War houses, including the oldest building in Little Rock, the Hinderliter Grog Shop, dating back to 1827. These buildings offer a glimpse into frontier life in Arkansas. Costumed interpreters and demonstrations of traditional crafts like blacksmithing, sewing, and printing further enrich the visitor experience. The museum also houses galleries with collections of Arkansas-made decorative, mechanical, and fine arts objects, ranging from indigenous artifacts to contemporary works. The museum's mission is to preserve, interpret, and present Arkansas's stories and collections for education and enjoyment. Special events, such as Living History Days and 2nd Friday Art Nights, provide engaging experiences for all ages.
