Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden: An Oasis of Art by the River

The Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden, nestled in Little Rock's scenic Riverfront Park along the Arkansas River, is a captivating blend of art and nature. This unique garden features over 90 sculptures by artists from Arkansas and across the country, creating an inspiring and whimsical atmosphere. The garden's story began with a visit to the Benson Sculpture Garden in Loveland, Colorado, which inspired the creation of a similar space in Little Rock. The project took root in 2004 with a local art show, and by 2009, the Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden was officially dedicated. The Vogel Schwartz Foundation played a crucial role through financial support. Starting with just seven sculptures purchased from the 2007 and 2008 Sculpture at the River Market shows, the garden has steadily grown, with new pieces added regularly. A 2017 expansion doubled the garden's size, allowing for the installation of even larger works. The sculptures themselves are diverse, ranging from realistic depictions of animals to abstract forms, ensuring there's something to capture every visitor's imagination. The garden's design incorporates natural terraces and walkways, creating distinct outdoor "rooms" that showcase the art in a harmonious setting. Boulders from nearby Petit Jean Mountain and steel panels add to the gallery-like feel, creating surprising visual elements around every corner. The garden also features a playground, making it family-friendly.
