Constructed in 1943 by Elise Quigley and her family, this unusual home is a captivating blend of folk art, architecture, and botanical wonder.Tired of living in a simple lumber shack, Elise Quigley dreamt of a home that embraced the natural world. When her husband, Albert, was away at work, she and her children tore down the shack, prompting the construction of her dream home. Using lumber sourced directly from their property, the Quigleys built a two-story structure filled with unique features.The exterior of Quigley's Castle is encrusted with rocks, fossils, crystals, and arrowheads that Elise collected since childhood. This labor of love took her three years to complete, transforming the house into a sparkling mosaic. Inside, she designed a four-foot-wide space between the walls and the living area to create an indoor garden. Tropical plants flourish here, some reaching the second-story ceiling, creating a seamless blend of nature and domestic life.Visitors can explore the castle's gardens, which feature over 400 varieties of perennials, rock sculptures, and a lily pond. Inside, they'll find family antiques, unique collections, and the famed "Butterfly Wall," a stunning display of mounted butterflies and moths.
