Discover more about Dilijan Amphitheatre

Nestled in the heart of Dilijan, a town often called "Armenian Switzerland" for its lush forests and alpine meadows, the Dilijan Amphitheatre is a relatively new landmark that pays homage to the town's vibrant cultural past. Built in 2009, this Greek-style structure evokes a sense of ancient grandeur, often leading visitors to believe it's been standing for centuries. Dilijan has a rich theatrical history, dating back to the 19th century when the town was home to the Rotonda, an open-air amphitheater that served as a cultural hub. The Rotonda hosted performances by famous Armenian and foreign actors, including a staging of Gabriel Sundukyan's play "Pepo" in 1905. Although the original Rotonda was closed in 1948, its legacy lived on through concerts and literary readings. The Dilijan Amphitheatre was built to revive these cultural traditions. The ensemble, which includes a sculpture of a girl holding a jar and a classical arch with columns, provides a venue for a variety of cultural and youth events. The amphitheater is conveniently located near Sharambeyan Street, where visitors can explore artisan shops and local eateries. From the amphitheater, visitors can enjoy stunning views of Dilijan and its mountainous surroundings.
