Discover more about Mother Armenia Monument

Rising from Victory Park, the Mother Armenia monument is more than just a statue; it embodies national pride and enduring strength. Created by sculptor Ara Harutyunyan in 1967, it replaced a statue of Joseph Stalin, which had stood since 1950. The monument commemorates Armenia's role in World War II and subsequent conflicts. The 22-meter-tall copper statue depicts a strong female figure holding a sword and shield, symbolizing peace through strength and the protective spirit of the Armenian nation. The model for the statue was a 17-year-old girl named Evgenia Muradyan. The statue stands atop a 36-meter pedestal designed by Rafael Israelyan, whose interior resembles a three-story Armenian domed church. Inside the pedestal, the Mother Armenia Military Museum showcases Armenia's military history, with exhibits dedicated to World War II and the Nagorno-Karabakh War. Visitors can view personal belongings, weapons, and documents of war participants. From the monument's location in Victory Park, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Yerevan and, on clear days, Mount Ararat. The surrounding park provides walking paths and space for relaxation.
