    Arin Berd, also known as Erebuni Fortress, is a captivating archaeological site located in Yerevan, Armenia. Dating back to 782 BC, it was established by Urartian King Argishti I, serving as a vital military stronghold and royal residence. The fortress, situated on a hill 65 meters high, offers stunning panoramic views of Yerevan and the Ararat Plain. The name Yerevan itself is derived from Erebuni, highlighting the site's historical significance.Originally, Erebuni was one of several fortresses built to protect the northern Urartian border, becoming a crucial political, economic, and cultural center. The fortress had a clear layout, with a town at the foot of the hill and a citadel on top. The walls, made of basalt, tufa, wood, and adobe, once stood 10-12 meters high. Inside, there was a palace, a temple dedicated to the god Khaldi, a royal assembly hall, storerooms, and dormitories.Archaeological excavations, which began in 1950, have revealed a wealth of artifacts, including cuneiform inscriptions, wall paintings, pottery, and metalwork.
