Getting There

Car
From Armavir, take the M-4 highway heading south towards Artabuynk. Continue on the M-4 for about 18 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for Artabuynk. Turn right onto the road leading into the village. Drive through the village, following the signs toward Smbataberd. The fortress is located on a hilltop, and you will see it as you get closer. There is no entrance fee, but you may want to park in a safe area nearby and walk up to the fortress for the best views.

Public Transportation
From the main bus station in Armavir, take a marshrutka (minibus) heading to Artabuynk. The fare is approximately 200 AMD. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Artabuynk, ask locals for directions to Smbataberd as it may not be well-signposted. It’s a short walk uphill from the village to the fortress, which should take about 15-20 minutes. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes for the hike.
