Discover more about Dilijan Amphitheatre

Nestled in the heart of Dilijan, Armenia, the Dilijan Amphitheatre stands as a captivating cultural landmark. Surrounded by the lush forests and majestic mountains of the Tavush region, often called "Armenian Switzerland," this modern structure serves as a stunning backdrop for a variety of performances, including concerts, theater productions, and community events. Built in 2009, the amphitheater is a tribute to Dilijan's theatrical heritage, which dates back to the 19th century when the town was home to the Rotonda, an open-air amphitheater. The Rotonda was a vibrant cultural hub, hosting performances by famous Armenian and foreign actors, including a staging of Gabriel Sundukyan's play "Pepo" in 1905. Though the original Rotonda was closed in 1948, the tradition of cultural events continued. The new Amphitheatre, designed in the Greek style, includes a sculpture of a girl holding a jar and a classical arch with columns. This design has led many visitors to mistake it for an ancient structure. Today, the Amphitheatre hosts a variety of cultural and youth events, including the International Mime Festival. Visitors can also enjoy a stunning view of Dilijan from this vantage point. The amphitheater is conveniently located near Sharambeyan Street, where visitors can explore artisan shops and local eateries.
