Public Bus
From Kapan, head to the main bus station located near the city center. Look for buses heading towards Ararat Province or specifically to the village of Pokr Vedi. The bus ride should take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Once you arrive at Pokr Vedi, you can ask the bus driver to drop you off at Khor Virap Monastery, or you can ask locals for directions. The monastery is located a short walk from the bus stop.
Shared Taxi
At Kapan, go to the taxi station near the city center. Look for shared taxis (often called 'marschrutkas') heading towards Ararat Province. You can negotiate a price with the driver to drop you off at Khor Virap Monastery. The ride typically takes about 40 minutes to an hour. Ensure you have the name of the monastery written down in Armenian ('Խոր Վիրապ') to show the driver.
Walking from Pokr Vedi
If you reach Pokr Vedi by bus or taxi, from the bus stop, head northeast towards the main road (H11). Follow the signs leading to Khor Virap Monastery, which is about a 20-30 minute walk. You will see the monastery on a hill, and the path leading up is well-marked. Enjoy the scenic views of Mount Ararat along the way!
