Travel Guide to Kecharis Monastery

Getting There

• Walking

  Begin your journey at the central square of Vayk, where you will see the statue of Hovhannes Shiraz. Head north along the main street, continuing straight until you reach the bus station. From there, follow the road that leads towards the outskirts of the town, keeping an eye out for local signage indicating direction to Tsaghkadzor. As you exit Vayk, take the path that leads to the hills. The trail will gradually incline, providing a scenic view of the area. This path will eventually lead you to Khachatur Kecharetsi Street.

• Public Transport

  From the center of Vayk, walk to the bus station and look for a minibus heading to Tsaghkadzor. The fare is usually very affordable. Once on the minibus, enjoy the ride as you travel through the beautiful landscapes of Armenia. Disembark at the Tsaghkadzor stop. After getting off, ask locals for directions to Kecharis Monastery, which is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop along Khachatur Kecharetsi Street.

• Biking

  If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bike in Vayk. Start your journey from the town center and follow the main road towards Tsaghkadzor. The route is mostly flat, but you will have some inclines. Keep to the right side of the road, and watch for other vehicles. Once you reach Tsaghkadzor, head towards Khachatur Kecharetsi Street, where you will find signs directing you to Kecharis Monastery. The trek should take around 1-1.5 hours depending on your biking speed.
