Makravank Monastery, located just outside Hrazdan, presents a unique glimpse into Armenia's rich ecclesiastical heritage. Established in the 10th century, with significant construction in the 13th century, the monastery is celebrated for its stunning Armenian architecture, featuring traditional stone carvings. The complex includes the Surb Astvatsatsin Church (Holy Mother of God), an 11th-century half-ruined chapel, remnants of a gavit, and a medieval cemetery. The Surb Astvatsatsin Church features a circular tambour and conical cupola. The arch of the window at the south end is flanked by Bolnisi style crosses. Inside, the altar is constructed of wood and painted in various hues. The monastery's name, 'Makravank,' means 'monastery of the long walls,' referencing the design of its enclosures.
