Discover more about Rooi Tambu Trail

The Rooi Tambu Trail offers a unique hiking experience through a dry riverbed within Aruba's Arikok National Park. "Rooi" is the Papiamento word for dry riverbed, and Rooi Tambu is one of the largest rainwater discharges in Aruba. This 4.6-mile (7.5 km) trail leads to the shoreline at Dos Playa, presenting hikers with stunning geological formations and diverse vegetation. The trail is considered difficult and may be inaccessible depending on water levels. During the rainy season (October to January), the riverbed may fill with water, and freshwater fish and shrimp can be found. In the dry season, the wind gusts through the rooi, creating sounds like rolling drums. The trail showcases Aruba's geological diversity, from lava and rock formations to the island's coastline. Keep an eye out for the 200-year-old Fofoti trees along the way. Dos Playa, meaning "two beaches", is the nesting site for sea turtles, including leatherback, hawksbill, green, and loggerhead turtles. Due to strong currents, swimming is not recommended. For those unfamiliar with Arikok National Park, booking a guided tour with a park ranger is highly recommended.
