Walking

From the Palm Beach high-rise hotel area, the Bubali Bird Sanctuary is within walking distance. Head west, and you'll find the sanctuary located just across from the Old Dutch Windmill. The walk is generally easy and takes about 15-20 minutes from most hotels.

Public Transport

To reach the Bubali Bird Sanctuary via public transport from Oranjestad, take the Arubus route L10b towards the hotel area. The bus departs from the Arubus Terminal every 5 minutes. Ask the driver to drop you off near the Divi Phoenix; from there, it's a short walk to the sanctuary. The bus fare is approximately $3 USD. From the bus stop, walk towards the Old Dutch Windmill; the sanctuary will be on your left.

The Bubali Bird Sanctuary, established in 1980, is a serene haven for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers on the northwestern coast of Aruba. This protected area spans approximately 29 hectares (49 acres) and features a unique landscape of dry terrain interspersed with man-made interconnected ponds. These ponds were created by the nearby water treatment facility, which empties into them, forming a vital water source for the island's wildlife.The sanctuary is home to over 80 species of migratory birds, including herons, egrets, gulls, skimmers, coots, and ducks. Birdwatchers can observe these birds from the observation tower, which offers panoramic views of the marshlands and surrounding areas. The tower is easily accessible via a short dirt road. The surrounding vegetation also provides nesting grounds for many species.Located near the high-rise hotel area and just in front of the historical Old Dutch Windmill, the Bubali Bird Sanctuary is hard to miss and offers a peaceful escape from the bustling tourist areas. It's an ideal spot for families, photographers, and anyone seeking a close encounter with Aruba's natural beauty. Admission is free, making it an accessible attraction for all.
