Visit the Donkey Sanctuary Aruba: a loving home for rescued donkeys, offering a unique and heartwarming experience for all ages.

4.8

For a heartwarming experience during your trip to Aruba, consider spending a few hours at the Donkey Sanctuary Aruba. This family-friendly destination offers visitors a chance to connect with the island's donkeys, who have been part of Aruba's history for 500 years. Brought over by the Spanish, they were the primary mode of transportation before cars. As cars became more common, the donkeys were released into the wild. A severe illness in the 1970s nearly wiped them out, leaving only 20 wild donkeys. In response, the Donkey Sanctuary Aruba was founded in 1997 to save and care for the remaining donkeys. Located in Bringamosa, the sanctuary provides food, medical care, and shelter to rescued donkeys. Each donkey receives a name, love, and individual attention. Visitors can feed and pet the donkeys, with many eagerly accepting snacks like apples and carrots. You can also relax on the covered porch, enjoy a cold drink, and browse the gift shop. Proceeds from purchases help fund the sanctuary's mission. The sanctuary is open every day from 9 am to 4 pm, except on January 1st. Donations are welcome.
