4.3

The Bubali Bird Sanctuary, situated on the northwestern end of Aruba, is a vital wetland area recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International. Established in 1980, the sanctuary spans approximately 20 hectares and features interconnected man-made ponds that originated from a water treatment facility. These ponds now serve as a lush habitat for a diverse array of migratory and resident bird species. Visitors can observe various bird species, including herons, egrets, gulls, skimmers, coots, and ducks. The sanctuary also attracts migratory birds seeking refuge and breeding grounds. The observation tower offers an excellent vantage point for birdwatchers to observe the birds in their natural habitat. The desert scrub vegetation along the seaward side provides habitat for nesting white-tailed nightjars, yellow warblers, burrowing owls, ruby-topaz hummingbirds, eared and common ground doves, and bananaquits. The Bubali Bird Sanctuary is conveniently located within walking distance of the Palm Beach resorts, making it an easily accessible destination for tourists. It's situated near the Old Dutch Windmill, serving as a recognizable landmark. The sanctuary provides a unique opportunity to witness wildlife up close and personal, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and families.
