Sero Colorado Lighthouse: Aruba's Southeastern Sentinel

The Sero Colorado Lighthouse, located near San Nicolas on Aruba's southeastern coast, has been a guiding beacon for maritime traffic since 1881. Also known as the Colorado Point Lighthouse, it stands as one of the island's two active lighthouses. While perhaps not as visually striking as other lighthouses, its location offers breathtaking views and a sense of tranquility. Originally constructed with stone and wood, the current lighthouse features a metal structure with a light displayed at the top of an 8-meter tower, protected by a wire cage. The light, positioned 51 meters above sea level, has a range of 21 nautical miles. The surrounding area showcases Aruba's rugged coastline, with crashing waves and unique geological formations. Visitors can explore the lighthouse grounds and take in the panoramic vistas of the Caribbean Sea. The area is ideal for hiking, with scenic paths leading to stunning viewpoints. History buffs will appreciate the remnants of military defense zones and bunkers from World War II, when American soldiers occupied the area to protect the oil refinery. Although the lighthouse itself may not be open to the public, the site is accessible and offers a peaceful escape with spectacular views.
