4.8

Yangarra Estate Vineyard, located in the northeast corner of McLaren Vale, South Australia, is a testament to the region's diverse terroir and commitment to sustainable winemaking. The estate's history dates back to 1946 when it was first established as Lalla Rookh, meaning 'love nest,' and planted with Grenache vines. Today, Yangarra is a certified organic and biodynamic single-vineyard estate, devoted to producing wines that reflect an authentic sense of place. The vineyard spans 170 hectares, with approximately 90 hectares planted to vine. The remaining land is dedicated to native vegetation and wildlife, enhancing the symbiotic relationship between the vines and their natural environment. Yangarra's combination of ancient geology, high altitude, abundant sunshine, and cool evening breezes creates ideal growing conditions for Rhône varietals. Specializing in Grenache, Yangarra is home to some of the region's oldest bush vines, dating back to 1946. Other varieties include Shiraz, Roussanne, Mourvèdre, and Carignan, as well as lesser-known grapes like Bourboulenc, Picpoul Noir, Clairette Blanc and Counoise. Peter Fraser has been the winemaker since 2000, championing minimal intervention, wild fermentation, and gentle extraction to highlight the purity of fruit and a sense of place. The architecturally striking cellar door features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking sweeping views of the vineyards. Inside, a dedicated viewing platform overlooks the extensive collection of ceramic amphorae fermentation vessels. Visitors can select from various tasting experiences, guided by knowledgeable hosts, to discover Yangarra's award-winning wines and learn about their biodynamic regenerative farming practices. Tastings can be booked online for groups of up to 6 people. Options include the Estate Tasting, Single Block Tasting, and the Expressions of Grenache Tasting. For a more in-depth experience, guests can book the High Sands Experience, a private tour that includes a guided vineyard visit, winery exploration, and a tasting of Yangarra's flagship wine.
