The land at 38 Partridge Street was purchased in 1839 by Mrs. Elinor Varley. Architects English, Soward, and Jackson designed the original 18-room house. Over the years, the house was owned by several prominent families, including Charles Grant Varley and pastoralist H.P. McLachlan. In 1973, the City of Glenelg (now City of Holdfast Bay) purchased the property, saving it from demolition. Today, Partridge House serves as a versatile venue for weddings, life celebrations, corporate events, and community gatherings. Its spacious rooms feature chandeliers, leadlight windows, ornate ceilings, and opulent fireplaces, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The gardens are open daily from 7 am to dusk, offering a serene environment for families, couples, and solo travelers. The venue also features a commercial kitchen and a playground.
