Giant Sky Wheel: Geelong's High-Flying Attraction

The Giant Sky Wheel is a spectacular Ferris wheel located on the Geelong waterfront at Eastern Beach. As the largest travelling Ferris wheel in the Southern Hemisphere, it provides breathtaking views of Corio Bay, the Geelong Yacht Club, and the city skyline. Standing at an impressive 50 meters in height, the wheel is a prominent feature of the Geelong waterfront. Built in Europe in 2005, the Giant Sky Wheel has 36 gondolas, each capable of carrying six passengers, accommodating a total of 216 people. A ride on the wheel takes approximately 7-10 minutes, with an additional 6-10 minutes for loading. During the day, the bright gondolas create a sense of excitement as they spin against the backdrop of the bay. At night, the wheel transforms into a dazzling spectacle with over 300,000 LED lights creating 24 different light patterns. The Giant Sky Wheel is a popular attraction for visitors of all ages, offering a unique perspective on Geelong's waterfront and surrounding areas. It operates at Eastern Beach from September to April. The area around the Giant Sky Wheel and Eastern Beach is a hub of activity, with numerous events, festivals, and concerts held throughout the year. Eastern Beach itself is a historic swimming and recreation area, featuring an Art Deco-style swimming enclosure, a children's pool, and a promenade dating back to the early 20th century.
