    Discover more about Whistling Rocks

Located along the Cape Bauer Loop near Streaky Bay on the Eyre Peninsula, Whistling Rocks is a captivating natural attraction where the raw power of the Southern Ocean meets unique geological formations. Here, the coastline's rugged beauty is amplified by an unusual phenomenon: as waves crash against the cliffs, air and seawater are forced through small holes in the eroded rock, creating a distinctive whistling sound. The site features a well-maintained 360-meter boardwalk that winds through the sand dunes, leading visitors to viewing platforms perched on the cliff edge. These platforms offer panoramic views of the coastline, allowing visitors to witness the dramatic interaction between the waves and the rocks. The best time to experience the full effect of the Whistling Rocks is during high tide, when the wave action is most intense, and the 'whistling' is at its loudest. However, some visitors describe the sound as more of a 'whoosh' or a 'monster's roar'. The geological formations at Whistling Rocks are a result of thousands of years of erosion by the relentless forces of wind and water. The cliffs, composed of limestone, have been gradually sculpted into a series of blowholes and narrow passages. The interplay of these elements creates a dynamic and ever-changing soundscape, making each visit a unique experience. While the natural sounds and coastal scenery are the main draws, the area is also home to diverse wildlife. The surrounding coastline provides a significant breeding habitat for raptors such as the southern osprey and white-bellied sea eagle. Keep an eye out for these majestic birds soaring overhead as you explore the area. Whistling Rocks is easily accessible via well-signed local roads leading to a nearby parking area. From there, the boardwalk provides a comfortable and safe path to the viewing platforms.
