If you're driving from Hervey Bay, head south on Boat Harbour Drive, continuing onto the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road. After about 15 kilometers, merge onto the Queensland Coast Road (A1) heading towards Gatakers Bay. Continue on A1 for approximately 20 kilometers. Follow the signs for Gatakers Bay, which will lead you onto Gatakers Bay Drive. The bay will be on your right. There is no parking fee at Gatakers Bay.
Public Transportation
To reach Gatakers Bay via public transportation, start by taking the bus service from Hervey Bay to Maryborough. The bus departs from the Hervey Bay Bus Station. Upon arriving at Maryborough, transfer to a local bus that goes towards Gatakers Bay. Make sure to check the local bus schedules in advance, as services may vary. The total cost for the journey from Hervey Bay to Gatakers Bay will be around AUD 15-20.
Bike
For the more adventurous, biking from Hervey Bay to Gatakers Bay is an option. Start on the Esplanade and follow the bike paths along the coast. The ride is approximately 25 kilometers and can take around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your speed. This is a scenic route, but be prepared for some hills as you approach Gatakers Bay. Ensure you have a bike lock as parking facilities may not be available.
