4WD
Lake McKenzie is located in the center of K'gari and is best accessed by 4WD vehicle. From Kingfisher Bay Resort, drive southwest towards Cornwells Road. After 4km, turn right onto Northern Road for 6km. Finally, turn right onto Lake McKenzie Road and continue for 2.5km to the lake's car park. From the car park, a short walk along a semi-sealed pathway leads to the lake; note that there is a short set of stairs. A vehicle access permit is required for driving on K'gari. These can be purchased online or at various outlets on the mainland and island. Expect to pay around $55.70 for a one-month permit. However, it is recommended to arrive early, especially during peak season, as it can get crowded.

For hikers, Lake McKenzie can be reached via the K'gari Great Walk. From Kingfisher Bay Resort, follow the jetty road to the resort roundabout.
