Getting There

  If you are driving, start from Cairns and head south on the Captain Cook Highway (A1). Follow the signs for the Port of Cairns, which is approximately a 30-minute drive. Once at the Port, park your car in one of the designated parking areas. You will need to pay a parking fee, typically around AUD 15-30 per day, depending on the lot you choose. From the Port, you will need to take a ferry to Fitzroy Island, which is one of the gateways to Barrière de corail.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Barrière de corail using public transportation, take a bus from Cairns to the Port of Cairns. The bus services are operated by Sunbus and typically cost around AUD 4-6. Once you arrive at the Port, purchase a ferry ticket to Fitzroy Island. The ferry ride takes about 45 minutes and costs approximately AUD 80 return. Make sure to check the ferry schedule in advance, as services may vary.

• Ferry

  Once you arrive at Fitzroy Island via ferry, you will need to walk to the area known as Barrière de corail, which is accessible from the beach. Look for signs directing you to the coral reef area. Make sure to bring appropriate gear for snorkeling or swimming if you plan to explore the reef. Remember to check the tide times, as access to certain areas may vary based on tidal conditions.
