Car
If you are driving from the main towns in the Great Southern region, you will first need to get onto the Albany Highway (National Route 30). Head north from Albany, then merge onto the Great Southern Highway (State Route 120) towards Northam. Continue on this route until you reach the junction for the Victoria Highway (National Route 1). Follow the Victoria Highway north for approximately 1,400 kilometers until you reach Katherine. From Katherine, take the Stuart Highway (National Route 1) towards Darwin, and look for signs for Nitmiluk National Park. Edith Falls is located within the park, approximately 40 kilometers from Katherine. Expect a travel time of about 20-25 minutes from the Katherine township to Edith Falls. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel, as services may be limited along the way.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transport, begin your journey at the nearest major town, which is Katherine. You can take a bus service from Katherine to Nitmiluk National Park. Check the local bus schedules in advance, as services may be limited. Once you arrive at the park entrance, you may need to take a taxi or a rideshare service to reach Edith Falls, as it is situated a few kilometers from the main entrance. Be aware that you may incur costs for both the bus fare and the taxi service.
Walking
If you are already within Nitmiluk National Park and wish to walk to Edith Falls, there are designated walking trails that lead to the falls. The most popular trail is the Edith Falls Walk, which is approximately 2.6 kilometers (round trip). The walk is relatively easy and takes about 1 hour to complete. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water, especially in warmer months. The starting point for the walk is well-marked from the main parking area.
