Discover more about False Cape Wines

False Cape Wines, established in 1999, is a picturesque winery located on the Dudley Peninsula of Kangaroo Island. Named after a nearby coastal landmark, the vineyard was founded by Jamie and Julie Helyar, in collaboration with the Follett family of Lake Breeze Wines. The location was carefully selected for its ideal soil conditions, boasting a north-facing slope with Terra Rosa soils over limestone and fertile dark alluvial soils along the Willson River. Today, the vineyard spans over 60 acres, making it the largest on Kangaroo Island. The cellar door, which opened in December 2019, offers stunning views of the vineyard and the surrounding native gum trees along the Willson River. The custom-built, rustic building incorporates recycled wood, jetty timbers, and local limestone, creating a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Inside, a wood heater keeps visitors warm during the winter months, while a large stone deck and lawn provide ample space for summertime gatherings. False Cape Wines prides itself on sustainable practices, growing vines as naturally and organically as possible. The winery produces a range of wines, including the award-winning Captain Cabernet Sauvignon and The Chardonnay. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings, along with delicious platters, homemade pies, and a kids' menu. A nature play area and basketball court keep children entertained, making it a perfect destination for families. The cellar door is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm, offering a welcoming experience for all.
