Getting there

Driving

From Kingscote, the main town on Kangaroo Island, drive approximately 110km west along the Playford and West End Highways or the South Coast Road. Follow signs to Flinders Chase National Park and then to Remarkable Rocks. Parking is available at the site. Note that entry fees to the park apply ($14.40 per adult). Tickets can be purchased online or at the Flinders Chase Visitor Centre.

Overview

Perched dramatically above the sea in Flinders Chase National Park, Remarkable Rocks presents a cluster of precariously balanced granite boulders. This stunning natural artwork has been shaped by the erosive forces of wind, sea spray, and rain over some 500 million years. The golden orange lichen covering parts of the rocks provides wonderful photo opportunities, especially during sunrise and sunset.Visitors can explore the rocks via a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk, with interpretive signs explaining their geological history. The flat surfaces are generally safe to walk on in dry weather, but caution is advised when conditions are wet or windy. From the viewing platform, enjoy views of the surrounding bays and the photogenic Casuarina Islets.Flinders Chase National Park, located on the western end of Kangaroo Island, was established in 1919 to protect endangered species and preserve the island's unique environment. The park is also home to other attractions such as Admirals Arch and Cape Borda Lightstation.
