Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Mallee. Head south on the Mallee Highway (A79) towards Big Desert. Continue driving for approximately 40 km until you see signs for Big Desert. After entering the Big Desert region, look for Kelly's Lookout signs. The lookout is located about 5 km off the main highway on a dirt road. Ensure you have a vehicle suitable for unsealed roads. There are no tolls on this route.
Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transportation, you can take a bus from Mallee to the nearest town with transport links to Big Desert. First, take a bus to Ouyen or another nearby town. From Ouyen, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to Kelly's Lookout, as public transport does not go directly to the lookout. The taxi fare may vary, so it's advisable to check with local taxi services ahead of time.
Bicycle
For those adventurous enough to bike, you can cycle from Mallee towards Kelly's Lookout. Take the Mallee Highway (A79) heading south, then turn onto the dirt road leading to Big Desert. It’s a scenic route but be prepared for a challenging ride, as the road can be rough. Ensure you have adequate supplies, including water and snacks, as there are no facilities along the way.
Walking
If you are staying nearby and wish to walk to Kelly's Lookout, follow the walking trails from the nearest accessible location. Be aware that the trails can be rugged, and it's essential to wear appropriate footwear and carry enough supplies, as well as a map or GPS device, since the area is remote.
