Discover more about Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery

Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery stands as a beacon of creativity in the heart of the Swan Hill region. Established in 1966, the gallery has evolved from its humble beginnings on the paddle steamer Gem to a purpose-built facility designed by architect Ian Douglas, which opened in 1987. The building's design, inspired by the Australian woolshed, incorporates local redgum timber and handmade mud bricks, creating a unique and inviting space. The gallery's collection features a wide array of paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures, with a particular emphasis on Australian Naïve art, works on paper, and pieces reflecting the Swan Hill region. Artists such as Constance Stokes, John Brack, and Sidney Nolan are represented in the collection. The gallery hosts up to 20 diverse exhibitions each year, including touring exhibitions of national significance and collaborations with local and regional artists. In addition to its exhibitions, the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery offers a variety of programs and events, including workshops, artist talks, school programs, and live music performances. The gallery also hosts the prestigious biennial National Print and Drawing Acquisitive Award. The gallery is currently undergoing an exciting redevelopment and is expected to reopen in late 2025. During the redevelopment, a pop-up gallery and shop are located at the Swan Hill Regional Library.
