Getting There

• Car

  From Mount Augustus National Park, start by heading south on Burringurah Road towards the Gascoyne Highway. After about 100 kilometers, merge onto the Gascoyne Highway (Route 1). Continue on the Gascoyne Highway for approximately 300 kilometers until you reach the town of Carnarvon. From Carnarvon, take the North West Coastal Highway (Route 1) heading north. Drive for about 600 kilometers until you reach the town of Port Hedland. Once in Port Hedland, you will need to take a flight to Thursday Island, which is the nearest access point to the Torres Strait Museum. Flights are available from Port Hedland to Thursday Island, and you should check for availability and costs in advance.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, you will still need to start your journey in Mount Augustus National Park. First, take a bus or arrange a shuttle service to the nearest town with a bus service, which is likely to be Carnarvon. From Carnarvon, you can board a Greyhound bus that travels along the North West Coastal Highway to Port Hedland. Once you arrive in Port Hedland, you will need to take a flight to Thursday Island. Note that you should book your bus and flight tickets ahead of time, and be prepared for potential layovers.

• Flight

  Once you arrive at Thursday Island Airport, you will need to make your way to the Torres Strait Museum and Historical Society Association located at Green Hill Fort, Thursday Island QLD 4875. You can either take a taxi from the airport, which is the most convenient option, or check if there are shuttle services available to the museum. The taxi ride should take approximately 15 minutes depending on traffic.
