From the Visitor Centre, continue on Lake Dobson Road for approximately 6 kilometers until you reach the parking area near the start of Tarn Shelf Track. Look for the sign indicating the 'Tarn Shelf Track' on your right. This area is well-marked, and parking is free.

To reach Mount Field National Park by public transport, you can take a bus from Hobart to the town of New Norfolk. From New Norfolk, you will need to catch a connecting bus to Mount Field National Park, which may require checking the local bus schedules in advance. Once you arrive at Mount Field, you will need to walk approximately 6 kilometers to the Tarn Shelf Turnoff. This walk will take you along Lake Dobson Road towards the Tarn Shelf Track.
