Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're traveling by car, start on the Lyell Highway (A10). From Queenstown, head east on the Lyell Highway towards Derwent Bridge. Nelson Falls is located approximately 20 km from Queenstown, and you will see a sign indicating the turnoff for Nelson Falls. Look for the parking area on your right. There is no fee for parking, and the falls are accessible from the parking area via a short walking track.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Queenstown to Derwent Bridge. There are limited services, so check the schedule beforehand. After arriving at Derwent Bridge, you can arrange for a taxi to take you to Nelson Falls, which is about a 5-minute drive from the bus stop. Taxi fares may vary, so it's advisable to confirm the price before the ride.
Walking
Once you arrive at the Nelson Falls parking area, you can access the falls via the well-marked walking track. The walk is approximately 1.5 km (return) and is considered easy. Allow about 30-45 minutes to enjoy the scenic views and take photos along the way. Ensure you wear appropriate footwear, as the path can be uneven.
Use Tower Bridge as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
