Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Darwin, take the Stuart Highway (National Route 1) south. Follow the signs for Kakadu National Park. Once you reach the park entrance, you will need to pay a park entry fee of approximately AUD 40 per vehicle for a 24-hour pass. Continue along the Kakadu Highway until you reach the turn-off for Jim Jim Falls Road. Motor Car Falls is located off this road. Follow Jim Jim Falls Road, which can be unsealed and may require a 4WD vehicle. After about 15 kilometers, you will find the parking area for Motor Car Falls. From here, it’s a short hike to the falls.

• Public Transport

  From Darwin, you can take a bus service to Jabiru, which is the nearest town to Motor Car Falls. The bus ride takes approximately 3 hours and costs around AUD 40 one way. Once in Jabiru, you may need to arrange a taxi or shuttle service to reach Motor Car Falls, as public transport options are limited. Ensure you check with local operators for availability and costs. Note that some services may require prior booking.

• Hiking

  If you are already within Kakadu National Park and prefer hiking, ensure that you have a map and are well-prepared. The trail leading to Motor Car Falls can be accessed from the parking area. The hike is relatively short but may involve some rocky and uneven terrain. Wear appropriate footwear, carry sufficient water, and check local conditions before setting out.
