If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Mallnitz, which is a convenient base in the Hohe Tauern region. From Mallnitz, take the B106 road towards the north. After approximately 10 kilometers, you will reach the junction with the Goldeckstraße (B99). Turn left onto B99. Continue on B99 for about 15 kilometers until you reach the parking area at the end of the road, which is near the Pasterze Glacier. Note that parking fees may apply, typically around €5-€10 per day.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, begin your journey in the town of Mallnitz. Take the local bus service (Bus 510) towards Heiligenblut, which operates several times a day. The ride lasts approximately 30 minutes. Disembark at the 'Pasterze' bus stop. From there, it is a short walk to the glacier, roughly 1.5 kilometers, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may vary depending on the season. A single bus ticket costs around €3-€5.
