Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start by navigating to the Hohe Tauern National Park area. From the nearest major town, Mittersill, drive south on B161 for approximately 15 kilometers. Follow the signs for 'Stemmerkogel' as you approach the trailhead, which is located at a parking area near the trail entrance. The parking area may charge a small fee, typically around €5 for the day. Once parked, follow the marked hiking trail towards Stemmerkogel, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a train to the nearest station, which is in Mittersill. From there, you can catch a local bus (Bus Line 640) heading towards Kals am Großglockner. Request to be dropped off at the 'Schwarzeck' stop. From the bus stop, you will need to walk approximately 2 kilometers to reach the trailhead for Stemmerkogel. Be aware that bus schedules may vary, so it’s advisable to check the local timetable in advance. The bus fare is usually around €4-€6 per trip.

• Hiking

  Once you reach the trailhead, follow the well-marked hiking paths that lead up to Stemmerkogel. The trail is moderately challenging, so ensure you have appropriate hiking gear, including sturdy shoes and water. The ascent will take roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your fitness level. Enjoy the stunning views along the way and be mindful of the weather conditions as they can change rapidly in the mountains.
