If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest major city, Vienna. Take the A2 motorway towards Graz. After about 30 km, take exit 36-Bad Vöslau. Follow the signs for Bad Vöslau and continue on B18 road. Once in Bad Vöslau, follow local signs to the Merkenstein ruins. There is a parking area nearby, but be aware that parking may be limited during peak tourist seasons.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a train from Vienna to Bad Vöslau. The trains are operated by ÖBB and run frequently. Once you arrive at Bad Vöslau train station, exit the station and head towards the bus stop. Take bus line 365 that goes towards 'Bad Vöslau Stadt' and get off at the stop 'Merkenstein.' If you are already in Bad Vöslau or have arrived by bus, you can walk to the Merkenstein ruins. Starting from the bus stop 'Merkenstein,' walk along the clearly marked hiking trails. The walk will take about 10-15 minutes and offers scenic views of the surrounding countryside. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes as some paths may be uneven.
