Getting there

Schneeberg Railway

The Hengsthütte is a stop on the Schneeberg Railway. From Puchberg am Schneeberg, take the train towards Hochschneeberg. The Hengsthütte is a designated stop. Check the Schneebergbahn schedule for departure times. A one way ticket to Hengsthutte is 9.00 EUR. A regular ticket to the top of Schneeberg costs 47.50 EUR.

Walking

From the parking lot in Puchberg, walk towards Muthenhof. Follow the wide path on the western side of the Schneeberg Railway line to the Hengsthütte. Ignore any branching paths. The hike is about 4 km and takes approximately 1 hour.

However, many visitors choose to hike from Puchberg am Schneeberg, enjoying the scenic trails that wind through the foothills of the Schneeberg. The cabin offers seating for around 110 guests, making it a great place to relax and refuel.Whether you're seeking a challenging hike to the summit of Schneeberg or a leisurely stroll through the alpine landscape, the Hengsthütte provides a perfect base. In winter, tobogganing is a popular activity, with toboggans available for rent at the hut. Enjoy regional specialties and warming drinks on the terrace, and on weekends in December, you may even encounter a Krampus.
