    Discover more about Albertina Modern

Albertina Modern, opened in 2020, is the Albertina Museum's second venue, dedicated to showcasing modern, postmodern, and contemporary art. Housed within the beautifully restored Künstlerhaus on Karlsplatz, the museum boasts over 60,000 works by 5,000 artists, establishing itself as a major institution for art from the present era. The museum's collection emphasizes Austrian art after 1945, incorporating key movements like Viennese Actionism and Fantastic Realism. It also features international artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Damien Hirst. The Essl Collection, on permanent loan since 2017, forms the core of the museum, complemented by temporary exhibitions exploring contemporary themes. The Künstlerhaus itself has a rich history, built in the 1860s as an exhibition venue for Austrian artists. The building has been modernized to meet museum standards, while retaining its original splendor, including its grand staircase. Albertina Modern owes its existence to a collaboration between the Austrian state and Hans Peter Haselsteiner, who financed the Künstlerhaus's renovation and contributed a significant portion of post-war Austrian art from his collection. Visitors can explore a diverse range of artistic styles and media, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, and videos. The museum aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Austrian art since 1945 while also showcasing international trends and artists.
