Belvedere 21: Vienna's Hub for Contemporary Art

Belvedere 21, located at Arsenalstraße 1 in Vienna, is a premier venue for contemporary art, film, and music. Housed in an architecturally significant building designed by Karl Schwanzer as the Austrian pavilion for the 1958 Brussels World Exhibition, it was adapted as a museum in Vienna in 1962. Architect Adolf Krischanitz remodeled the building for its 2011 reopening, adding a six-story tower. The museum focuses on Austrian art of the 20th and 21st centuries, presented within an international context. Belvedere 21 features the Blickle Kino, a cinema preserving the atmosphere of the 1950s, the 21er Raum exhibition space, a sculpture garden with works by internationally renowned artists, and the Salon für Kunstbuch, which serves as a venue for lectures and performances. The museum also houses the federal Artothek des Bundes and the archives of Austrian sculptor Fritz Wotruba.
